Controls and Layout
| Getting Started / Controls |
The layout and controls in Apocalypse are fairly straight-forward, especially if
you've played an RPG before. The navigation
map showing the location of your character is on the left, as well as a brief profile
including the important stats of your character like Life Points, Durability Points,
etc. The right portion of the screen contains the description of where you are,
as well as what is happening in a scenario or combat you may be involved in and
what your possible actions are.

If you are not in a scenario, shop, or combat, you will see the text ARROW KEYS TO MOVE directly above the navigation map. This indicates that the arrow keys may be used to move around the map. If you are busy with something such as a scenario or combat, the text YOU HAVE ACTION SO CHOOSE --> will appear instead.
Along the top of the
screen are orange buttons to access the various stat screens for your character (Profile,
Education, Inventory, etc.), as well as to logout or to view an overhead map of the area you
are in.
Anytime you see text in green like this, you can move your mouse over it to get more detailed information.
That is really all you must know to play. If you think you are ready to begin playing now, you may skip the rest of this guide
and visit the Character
Creation page. Or, continue on to read about the various profile screens for your character.
The Profile screen lists basic information about your character. It includes your
name, race, class, alignment, experience and level, as well as your primary and
secondary stats and your physical bonuses. The eight primary stats are intelligence,
willpower, charisma, strength, endurance, agility, beauty, and speed. Your
secondary stats include your life points and durability points, your mana, your
psyche, and the durability of your armor and vehicle.
The Education screen lists the skills that your character is proficient in,
as well as how many skill points you have available for training. Particular skills
are given to you automatically when you start the game depending on your class,
but you begin the game with no skill points. You receive your first skill points
at level four, and additional skill points every four levels after that. To use
your skill points to train new skills, you have to seek out an educational facility
such as a library, university, or military academy.
Your Inventory screen provides a listing of all the equipment that you are carrying
on you, including weapons, armor, other items, and any vehicles that you have with
you. You can equip and unequip weapons and armor through this screen, as well as
enter or exit vehicles that you own. Sometimes it is useful to carry an extra set
of armor with you besides the one that you keep equipped, so that if your main one
gets badly damaged you can simply switch them out!
The Quest Log lists the quests that you are currently pursuing (just so you don't
forget them).
